About HVLS Fans

An HVLS (High Volume Low Speed) fan is a mechanical fan greater than 7 feet (2.1 m) in diameter that moves a large volume of air at low rotational speed. It works on the opposite principle to a conventional fan, which moves a small volume of air at high speed.

Diameter and speed. A conventional fan covers a few square metres directly beneath it; an HVLS fan of 24 ft covers up to 20,000 sq.ft. because slow-moving air travels much further before it dissipates. One HVLS fan replaces roughly 100 conventional fans over a 15,000 sq.ft. floor.

Hot air rises and collects under the roof, leaving a temperature gradient of eight to twelve degrees between floor and ceiling. An HVLS fan pushes that layer back down and mixes it through the full volume, so the building equalises. This is what makes the fan useful in winter as well as summer.

They do not cool the air. They produce a wind chill effect that makes the space feel 4 to 5 degrees cooler at working level, and destratification evens out the floor-to-roof gradient. For most industrial spaces that is what comfort actually depends on.

Sizing & Selection

It depends on roof height, floor plate shape and obstructions more than on area alone. Use the size selector on the homepage for an indicative answer, then request a free feasibility study for a layout drawing with fan positions marked.

HVLS fans suit spaces above 2,500 sq.ft. with a roof height over 18 ft. Below 18 ft the coverage circle narrows sharply and fan count rises, which usually makes the economics unattractive.

Geared models suit industrial duty where robustness matters most and the 60 – 65 dB noise level is not an issue. Gearless models suit noise-sensitive and hygiene-sensitive spaces — below 40 dB, no gear oil, less maintenance. The Compare Models tool sets the two side by side.

For facilities up to roughly 20,000 sq.ft. with good roof height, sometimes yes. Beyond that, multiple fans give more uniform coverage than one large one. The optimisation step in our feasibility study finds the lowest fan count that still covers the floor properly.

Installation

On an IS 2062 M.S. tested hanging structure welded by certified welders, fixed to the roof truss or purlin, with SS wire rope wrapped around every bolted joint as secondary restraint.

A single fan typically takes half a day including structure fitment and commissioning, assuming access equipment is available at site.

Yes. Installation is normally scheduled zone by zone over off-peak shifts or weekends so operations continue.

Single phase or three phase at 50 Hz depending on model and duty. The VFD panel is mounted at 4 – 5 ft floor level and cabling is plug-and-play from panel to fan.

Power & Running Cost

Motor ratings run from 0.4 KW on the gearless 8 ft up to 1.5 KW on the geared 20 ft and 24 ft. In practice fans run well below rated load at normal operating speed.

The comparison is roughly 0.1 W per sq.ft. for HVLS against 2.5 W per sq.ft. for a conventional arrangement covering the same floor. Reported reductions in fan power consumption are typically in the 30 – 70% range depending on what is being replaced.

For most industrial facilities running two shifts, payback falls within the first two years. Put your own area, hours and tariff into the ROI calculator for a figure specific to your facility.

Yes, and in air conditioned buildings this is often the larger saving. Destratification lets you raise the set point by a couple of degrees for the same perceived comfort, and chiller load responds directly to set point.

Safety & Certification

CE certified by third party agency TUV Nord. The certificate is available for download on the Downloads page.

Several independent provisions: SS wire rope wrapped around every bolted joint, Nyloc self-locking nuts throughout, high tensile 10.9 grade fasteners selected with an additional safety factor, fail-free motor-to-hub couplings with S clamps and anti-fall S bends, and internal wire rope wrapping inside the blades themselves.

The hub is a single piece die cast LM6 aluminium component, radiography tested for internal cracks before assembly.

Yes — the safety provisions above are designed for exactly that, and the fans are installed in airports, prayer halls, schools and banquet halls. Full detail is on the Safety & Certification page.

Warranty & Service

Three years on hub, blades and hanging structure. One year on motor and controller.

Two preventive visits a year covers most single-shift facilities. Continuous-duty plants and dusty or corrosive environments are usually on a quarterly schedule.

Yes. Spares are stocked against the eleven models we manufacture, and the service network covers 16 cities across India.

Yes. We inspect the installation first and quote the contract based on condition and site environment.
